On May 29, 2025, Newark Public Schools made history with the city’s first-ever Esports Superintendent’s Cup — the Newark Esports Super Cup. Hosted at Technology High School, the live Rocket League championship brought together three powerhouse teams: the Technology High Panthers, East Side Red Raiders, and the Newark School of Data Science & Technology Circuits.

This groundbreaking event followed six virtual matchups earlier in the spring and marked a major milestone in Newark’s growing high school esports program, launched in 2023 by The Loyalty Foundation in partnership with the Newark Board of Education.

“This isn’t only about gaming. It’s about embracing the social and emotional benefits of esports, building teamwork, communication, and resilience — not just for education today, but for workforce development and the future. – David Neeman, Founder, The Loyalty Foundation

More than a competition, the Newark Esports program is designed to foster teamwork, leadership, digital skills, and workforce readiness. By combining the excitement of esports with opportunities in technology and education, Newark is building one of the most innovative and comprehensive public school esports initiatives in the nation.
