Video: Newark Students Shine at Second Esports Superintendent’s Cup

The second annual Newark Esports Superintendent’s Cup took place on May 28 at Technology High School, bringing together student competitors from four Newark public high schools for a day of teamwork, competition, and school pride.

Teams from Technology High School, East Side High School, Science Park High School, and Newark School of Data Science & Information Technology competed in Rocket League and EA Sports FC 26, which made its Super Cup debut this year. Technology High School captured the EA Sports FC 26 championship, while Newark School of Data Science & Information Technology successfully defended its title to win the Rocket League Super Cup for the second consecutive year.

Coaches, students, educators, and district leaders praised the event for fostering collaboration, sportsmanship, and community across Newark Public Schools. "The environment was electric, the competition was outstanding, and the experience was unforgettable," said Joe Lima, Esports Coach and Athletic Director at Newark School of Data Science & Information Technology. "It is incredible to see what esports can do not only for our students, but for an entire community."

The tournament was supported by Newark Public Schools and The Loyalty Foundation, whose partnership continues to help expand esports opportunities for students throughout the district.
